Brazilian Blowout

I cannot stress to you enough how obsessed I am with the Brazilian Blowout!

My hair is very thick and naturally curly which means that I get the summer frizzies. It has been a lifetime of hair product trial and error that never seemed to get me the results I wanted. No matter if I wore my hair curly or straight it always seemed to be frizzy during the summer. That is until a few years ago when I was introduced to this product line.

Since then, at the beginning of the summer before Memorial Day I schedule an appointment with my hair stylist for the Brazilian Blowout. The process is a little time consuming and can get pricey depending on the length of your hair (it runs me $380).

My hair stylist applies a keratin solution from the roots to the ends of my hair. The formula is heat activated, so she blow-dries my hair first followed by flat ironing section by section. She has glasses for both of us to wear (although I usually wear my own) because as the heat activates the formula it can make your eyes a little teary. Once done we go to the sink so she can rinse the formula out and finally she blow-dries and flat irons my hair once again. I leave the salon with the softest, shiniest, silkiest looking hair. The best part is that it will last me through the summer.

This is where I have to stress that this process is not for everyone. Some people question the health risks associated with the heat activation and the need to wear the glasses and I get it. You will need to weigh the risks for yourself. For me since it is only once a year and I love the results, I choose to do it. But like I said, be sure to take in all the options before you decide.

Now for some do’s and don’ts if you too choose to get a Brazilian Blowout.

First you want to try to avoid washing your hair for a couple of days. It is best that you do not use sulfate, clarifying or sodium chloride shampoos after as they will break down the keratin causing the results to not last as long. I opted to use the anti-frizz shampoo and conditioner in the same product line, so I get the maximum amount from the process.

Second, you MUST use the Ionic Bonding Spray after every time you wash your hair to ensure the success of your Brazilian Blowout results. It does not take a lot and the bottle will last you throughout the summer and then some. Simply spray on wet hair and comb through.

You can use your own hair products (with the exception of the shampoo/conditioner) like hair gel, serum, mousse, dry shampoo, etc… My choice is using an anti-frizz hair gel from another line after the Ionic Bonding Spray and before I dry my hair.

I have tried the Daily Smoothing Serum for in-between touch ups. However, found it to make my hair feel heavy, so I tend to not use it as often. Since everyone’s hair is different you may see better results than I have so I would not say to not use it.

The Dry Oil is a huge hit for me! After I am done styling my hair, I use a very small amount on my palms, rub them together and run my hands through my hair. It is great for controlling any of those fly-away hairs that blow drying can create.

I wanted to mention that even without doing the keratin process, if you use these products, you will see some benefits in the fight against frizz. Give them a try and see.

Lastly, I want to acknowledge that this is not a paid advertisement for Brazilian Blowout. This is a testimonial. As I said above, I have struggled for years and spent a lot of money buying products that did not work for me. This product line has proven to be my sweet spot in controlling my frizzy hair.
