Cotton Summer Dresses

Summer, in my opinion, is the best season when it comes to wardrobe. There is something about those light cotton breezy dresses that you can literally throw on and go yet look perfectly polished. Whether it is for date night or a backyard BBQ, with the proper accessories you can easily dress them up or go totally casual.

When I was younger my shopping preferences were much different than they are now. If I saw something pretty and liked the way it looked on, I bought it. However, I soon had a closet full of items that could not be mixed and matched with one another. Thus, owning a skirt that could only be worn with that top, a sweater that only looked good with a pair of jeans and nothing else or a pair of shoes that quite frankly didn’t quite go with anything.

As I got older, I refined my shopping habits. My first rule of thumb is that any item that catches my eye I need to think of three things I already own that I can wear it with. The next thing that I look at is the tag to see what fabric it is made from.

If that tag doesn’t say cotton (or cotton blend), I find myself passing on it. Now don’t get me wrong, cotton is not the only fabric my wardrobe consists of. I will purchase linen, cashmere, wool and/or some blend of these. Yet anything polyester or synthetic will not be added to my cart these days. Why?

Well first off, I find that most items made with cotton there is more emphasis on detail and quality. Secondly, it is more comfortable for those long days when you are on the go. Lastly, and most importantly during those hazy, hot and humid days of summer (or any season for that matter) … its breathable.

Here are some cotton summer dresses at different price points that are either on my wish list or I have purchased for the upcoming season and how I plan on styling them.
